City online services unavailable this weekend

01 June 2023

The City of Cape Town would like to advise residents who make use of its online services that a scheduled power outage for its data centres has been planned for this weekend. Various online City services will be impacted during this outage.

The City has scheduled a full power outage at the Transport Management Centre (TMC) to accommodate the electrical connection for the Photo Voltaic (Solar Panel) installation to be completed. This outage will be in effect from 07:00 until 18:00 on Sunday, 4 June 2023.

All IT and communication systems in the relevant data centres as well as the Network Centre will be unavailable during this period.

The following online services will also be unavailable from 17:00 on Friday, 2 June until 07:00 on Monday, 5 June 2023 due to necessary maintenance at the TMC:

  • Careers
  • Debt Management Collections
  • Development Management
  • E-Billing
  • E-Procurement
  • Events Permitting
  • Facilities Booking
  • Informal Trading Bays (ITPS) - Informal Trading Permit Solution
  • Municipal Accounts: Account Statements, Smartmeter, Property Valuation Objections
  • Online rebates
  • Rates Clearance
  • Vehicle Licensing
  • Work Order Management
  • Online service requests/fault reporting

MyCiTi commuters will still be able to check bus schedules on the MyCiTi website and app, however, real time information on bus locations will not be available during the outage.

'We apologise for the inconvenience caused during this temporary service interruption to our online services, however it is essential that we invest and install the electrical connection for the Photo Voltaic Solar Panel in order to keep this vital data centre operational as far as possible amid the current energy crisis,' says the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.

The City commenced with the roll out of its inverter and PV Solar installation programme earlier this month.
